Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Each of us has an unseen "life force energy" that flows through us. Reiki is meant to keep our energy high, thereby making us more capable of being healthy and happy.
The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words:
Rei - meaning "God's Wisdom" or the "Higher Power"
Ki - meaning "life force energy"
Clients report feelings of wonderful energy radiating through and around them during a session. Healing can be offered as "hands on" or with the practitioners hands just a few inches above the body of the client for in-person treatments. For those who are unable to travel to appointments, distance reiki is just as effective as in-person treatments.
Reiki treats the whole person. It is a mind-body-spirit approach to healing that also includes our emotional well-being. Some of Reiki's benefits include relaxation, feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki is safe, natural and simple. It is a method of spiritual healing that everyone can use in their quest for self-improvement. It is known to be effective and consistently creates a beneficial effect. Reiki works in conjunction with all medical and therapeutic treatments to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
TIPS TO OPTIMIZE YOUR REIKI TREATMENT
relax
Set aside 30 minutes prior to your appointment to relax and reflect. Check in with how you are feeling both physically and emotionally. Pay attention to your thoughts. Take a few deep breaths and tend to whatever your body's needs may be. This is a good time to set intentions for your session and think about what you want to share with your practitioner before your session begins.
hydrate (& eat)
Be sure to eat something a few hours before your session. A light healthy snack that prevents you from being distracted by hunger is best. Heavy meals should be avoided so the body can focus it's energy on healing rather than digesting.
You'll also want to make sure you are well hydrated before and after your Reiki treatment.
get comfy
You will be lying down for the majority of your session. Comfort is key if you want to be open to taking on and integrating the Reiki energy. Be sure to wear loose, breathable clothing. Bring a pair of socks to keep your feet warm as you will be removing your shoes for treatment.
Don't forget to use the restroom before your session.
after your session...
Try not to book or schedule anything immediately after your session.
Many of the benefits of Reiki can occur soon after the session ends. It is important to find somewhere quiet and relaxing to integrate what may arise. Take at least 15-20 minutes after the session to meditate, lie down, go for a walk in nature, or even take a nap.
A time of reflection (journaling, drawing etc.) to sit with any insights you had during your experience will always be helpful. Meditation or listening to calming/inspirational music afterwards is also beneficial.
It doesn't matter what you choose; simply do something that helps you connect more fully to your experience.
Finally, eat and hydrate (again!)
It’s always important to hydrate after doing any type of energy work; 1-2 glasses of water after your session is recommended. Energy work can be hungry work, and you may feel a little 'peckish' following your session. Listen to your body and choose a healthy snack or meal afterward if needed.
